The Ordinary Soothing & Barrier Support Serum 30ml

Cleared up my red spots over night and reduced my breakouts! Just after a couple of uses I had noticed that my skin not only looked smoother but felt smooth and hydrated. I have always struggled with drier combination skin and this serum paired with the Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA moisturizer have solved the problem! This product is so worth it and has helped me with my insecurity’s! I definitely will be recommending the ordinary to all my friends!

I was curious about this product and was hoping it would help with barrier support. I knew it was bright pink, but that wasn't a concern - it did not leave a cast, even on my very fair skin. My main issue is the smell. Very offputting, chemical smell, which would take a while to dissipate. I tried to use it anyways, but the result wasn't convincing enough to tolerate the smell. It now sits in my drawer, with <10% used. I can't bring myself to use it anymore. If you have a sensitive nose, would avoid!

I bought this serum at the end of 2024 and have been using it since then. I can’t stress how much I love this serum. It hydrates without leaving a sticky sensation and it visibly reduced pores and redness on my face.

Ive used this product a few times now, and instantly I noticed my skin feels a lot smoother! I was worried the pink pigment would stain my face but it doesnt. \r\n\r\nI have noticed my skin is extra dry since I started using it, and this product is the only new product in my regimen. I notice the dryness 12+ hours after using it, and I'm finding myself having to put on another layer of moisturiser at night or in the morning to compensate. I'm not sure maybe thats why it gives me a smoothing effect - it's matifying a lot of the moisture in my skin? I'm going to try to use less product as its possible I'm using too much

I have combination skin, so using actives to help my acne can also leave me with really dry patches or compromising my skin barrier. This product really helps me be able to still treat my acne while protecting my skin barrier and more sensitive/dry patches. it helps with appearance of the skin but also the discomfort of irritated skin. Since adding this product to my routine I haven't stopped using it, it is one of my favourites.

This is the 4th time I've purchased this serum. This time I had used Paula's Choice 1% Retinol for a few days and my skin was really red, and a bit sore. After 3 days of using the Soothing Barrier Support Serum my skin has calmed down, the redness is gone and my skin looks fabulous. I'm going to keep what's left of the serum in my beauty box (in a cool place) and use after the next time I use retinol.

I had an all-over-the-body reaction to using a depilatory, resulting in tons of awful, swollen bumps and ingrown hairs on my skin. They were painful, they weren't going anywhere for weeks, and I was starting to pick at them (I know, I know).\n\nI had tried salicylic acid, African black soap, and antibacterial gel to get rid of them. It wasn't until I used this serum all over that I finally saw any progress -- and oh, the progress!\n\nAfter one use, the redness and swelling went down within a few hours. After the second use, I could already notice faster healing on the ones I had picked at. I'm stoked to see what the third use brings! Really impressive product that's saving my hide...literally!

OMG I have never seen any product do what this one does. I have broken capillaries on my cheeks and after using this ONCE the redness is half what it usually is. I am a little shocked. This is great for those over 50!!

I bought this product and after a neck surgery started using it over a large scar while going over gave etc. it made that scar almost non existent. Way better than any scar product I had ever used. I even told my surgeon about it at follow up.

When I first ordered this serum from The Ordinary, it was a total impulse buy. The pink color? Instant wow. A new launch? I’m in. Promises of smoother skin? Say no more. But then came the first sniff and… oh no. Honestly? It smells like someone wrapped a rubber glove in a chemistry set. Super synthetic and not pleasant at all.\n\nStill, I decided to give it a fair shot. And thank god I did. After finishing the first bottle, I was honestly blown away. My skin had never felt this smooth like, baby-smooth, airbrushed-in-real-life kind of smooth. The scent still doesn’t exactly spark joy, but the results totally make up for it. And to be fair, the smell fades pretty quickly once it’s on your skin.\n\nNow I’m already on my second bottle and I can confidently say: this is one of the best products I’ve ever used. If you can get past the initial sniff, you might just fall in love with it too.

I have extreme combination skin with sebhorraic atitis in my nasal folds. I use several TO products and had found Niacinamide plus rose hip seed oil worked as part of my routine, especially for the atitis. Because my whole face is so out of balance I thought this might replace the Niacinamide but be more usable across my whole face - it sure is, but it's made my skin feel and look great, and slightly more even in terms of oily versus dry. It's more expensive than the Niacinamide but I've reduced how often I use both Marine Hyaluronics, and my LRP moisturiser, so that helps, and overall it's well worth it. \r\n\r\nI HAVE had a couple of very small pimples on my cheeks (dry skin) which I've never had before but now I'm nearing 3 months using this once a day I haven't had one for at least a month. Highly recommend!

This is a great serum! But in the beginning I had a very bad reaction that I thought it was the worst serum ever. I applied the serum immediately after cleansing and the skin would be hydrated and without reaction, then I would apply the other products that I had been using for a long time and the itching would start\nIn the morning the skin is dry, worse than ever. I wanted to stop using the serum. But I remembered that the reaction did not start immediately. Overall, I found that the reaction started after Purito Fermented Complex 94 Boosting Essence. After removing the essence, my skin feels super hydrated and calm. So if you have a reaction to this serum, don't give it up right away. Maybe it's a reaction with another product you're already using. Because this serum should soothe and hydrate your skin and not to do opposite.

This is a great multipurpose serum. I bought this during the Slowvember sale and have been using it daily in the mornings for the last couple of months. I thought I'd try this product due to all the beneficial ingredients it has. I really like the 2% niacinamide in this product - I have TO's 10% Niacinamide + 1% Zinc serum but I only use it on the oily parts of my face as it can be a little too drying on other parts of my face. It's soothing and has strengthened my skin barrier (it is far less prone to irritation now). My skin gets clogged very easily, but this hasn't caused any issues. The pink colour is cool and doesn't stain or discolour my skin, however, upon first applying it, it can make my face look a little flushed. This disappears within 2 or 3 minutes, though. I will continue to purchase this and use each morning :)

I was somewhat skeptical of this product, mostly because all of the “redness relief” and “soothing” serums that I have tried previously haven’t done much for me. However, this one gave me a noticeable difference. The day after I received the serum, I went out and accidentally got sunburned pretty good. When I got back home, I applied the serum right out of the shower and went to bed. The next morning, most of the redness from my sunburn had gone away! There was still a slight pink patch on my nose, but everywhere else was significantly improved. Overall, I would say it works well for soothing. As far as barrier support, I’m not sure what to look for to determine whether or not it’s working in that regard. It has a slight smell, but not too overwhelming or “bad,” and the pink color is a really fun addition!

This review is incentivized. I recieved this product for free to review. I have been using this serum for about a month now. Immediate effects are amazing, as soon as I put this on my face every night my skin feels to hydrating and soft. As far as long term effects that is a bit difficult. I hadn't noticed any long term effects for the month I have been using it. But maybe it just takes a bit longer. I will admit I am not the most knowledgable when it comes to skincare but this product was very cool to try out. As for the short term hydration, this is definitely a product I would love to keep about for winter as my face tends to get very dry and the immediate hydration will be welcoming. As for long term effects I am on the fence about. For reference I posted a photo of me right before I first started using the serum and a photo of the most recent night I used the serum.

Hi everyone! \n\nI have been using this product for a few days and I’m not sure how to feel about it, it has its pros and it’s cons. To start off it’s super cute and the pink shade to it is perfect! Unfortunately when I put it on the first time, after cleansing as it states in the instructions and put on my moisturizer and sunscreen like I usually do but this time incorporating it into my routine, my face felt like it was irritating and it had a burning sensation. It made my face red and has each time I used it. I have noticed how it has clear up my skin from some dark spots. I have oily skin with some dry spots on my face. I do like the consistency and feel of this serum! My face has been extra sensitive lately so that might play a factor but I don’t think I’ll incorporate this into my routine personally since it didn’t work out for me that well. A little goes a long way!

The ordinary has very simple and minimalistic packaging, which I always appreciate! The droppers are easy to use and the bottles are easy to read. Upon first using this serum, was pleasantly surprised that it was pink! #barbiesummer.\nUpon rubbing into my skin, it felt so soft! My skin felt like butter. When I woke up the next morning my skin felt soft and refreshed, I do have acne prone and very sensitive skin so I decided to use this every other night rather than several nights in a row. I'm on my third night in rotation so far and it's seeming to improve the overall glow and bounce that my skin barrier has. I will say it made my forehead very oily the morning after the first night upon use, so I just kept it to my cheeks and chin the other two. I will continue to use until the end to see how it continues to improve my barrier and to see if there's any further reaction.
